The Stock Prospector; Eric Dany

Eric only recommends stocks with PEG ratios under 1. He begins each year with a list of "winning stocks", and he took us through a couple of those picks. General Cable (NYSE:BGC), Illumina (NASDAQ:ILMN), Chattem Inc. (NASDAQ:CHTT), and his "Best Buy of the Year" General Electric (NYSE:GE). Illumina is the most interesting of his picks. It is a Bio-tech company that is involved the mapping of DNA. Their technology is used by other bio-techs to help medical research. Very fascinating stuff.
Solid interview and some winners. Listen in!

The Prudent Speculator; John Buckingham

John has an outstanding reputation and an even better track record. Since 1977, his picks have averaged over 20% annually. He is a bottom feeder with a long-term strategy. Were you in Apple at $7 and Dryships at $12, because John was. Now he is sifting through the housing and mortgage sectors seeking values. He likes EMC for its stake in VMware, United Online (NASDAQ:UNTD) for its stake in Classmates.com and the 5% yield, and Cypress Semi (NYSE:CY) for its ownership of Sunpower.

InvesTech Research; James Stack interview

Another Montana man who really knows his stuff. James is a true market historian and believes that housing still has 1-2 more years of pain before we see the bottom. He is advising his clients to get defensive with their portfolios. He has increased his cash position to 35% and has picked high quality stocks from three defensive sectors; consumer staples, healthcare, and energy. Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO) has 80% of its total sales come from over-seas which is important because of the falling dollar. He likes Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) and Abbot Labs (NYSE:ABP) for healthcare. EnCana (NYSE:ECA), Devon Energy (NYSE:DVN), and Conoco Philips (NYSE:COP) are good ways to profit from high energy prices.
Very smart commentary on topics that affect everyone. LISTEN IN!

Granville Market Letter; Joe Granville interview

Doomsday is upon us according to Joe. His predictions have come true in the past, and he seems to be shorting the market successfully. With that said, I find it hard to believe that the Dow will see 7100 ever again, but Joe says that the "charts" predict just such a decline. He uses charts to predict market events and stock prices. When shorting a stock, a stock will hit the top, decline, bounce back below its high and then look out basement. Not a technician myself, this type of analysis really intrigues me. I think Joe is on to something, but I do not think that these markets are heading for the same crash we saw in '29. By the way, I have spoken more in this blog entry than in the whole interview. He's a talker.

Upside Newsletter; Richard Moroney interview

Rich has developed a very interesting quantitative system for ranking stocks called Quadrix(R). This system uses many different metrics in seven categories to deliver an overall Ranking. He developed the system in 1999 and has been using it to recommend stocks since then. We discussed some of the highest rated stocks in his portfolio; optionsXpress (NASDAQ:OXPS) and Men's Wearhouse (NYSE:MW). OXPS received a score of 100 and MW had a score of 99. Another industry that ranks highly with his system is oil & gas service. He is bullish on NATCO (NYSE:NTG) and Helix (NYSE:HLX). NTG is a specialty equipment company and would be a more broad energy play, while HLX has exposure to the Gulf of Mexico (a.k.a. riskier).
Great system should make for great stock picks. ListeN In!

Ruff Times; Howard Ruff interview

This certainly was a "Ruff" interview. Howard had just returned from a long fishing trip in Utah and had been secluded from civilization for a bit too long. He likes gold and silver, but he did not have any specific stocks on hand to use ass examples. He mentioned that silver has more industrial uses, and therefore will be in high demand. I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt because his logic seemed reasonable, so I will check in with him again in the future. He should have some good insight into nuclear energy by then.
That's why they call it fishing... not catching. listen in.

The Bowser Report; Max Bowser

Max is a real interesting guy, with a an interesting investment technique. He invests in stocks under $3, and has been doing so for over 40 years. This is a real Old School newsletter. I was sent a copy, and it actually comes in the mail... on paper! Truly amazing stuff. Now back to the stock picks. Global Med (GLOB.OB) is a $1.40 stock that specializes in software for blood banks. Feminine Health Co. (AMEX:FHC) produces, get this, feminine condoms. Max asked me if I knew what a condom was. Can you believe this guy? Regardless, the company has positive earnings, and is selling a ton of these condoms to Africa to help the AIDS epidemic.
These stocks should definitely be on the radar and you should Listen In!

Cabot Benjamin Graham Value Letter; Roy Ward

Roy Ward follows the principals of the "Father of Value Investing"; Benjamin Graham. It was a real pleasure to talk real value investing with Roy. His newsletter details which companies meet the strict requirements of Ben Graham and then he gives a buy price and sell price. Mylan Inc. (NYSE:MYL) is a generic drug maker that should profit from a recent, major, acquisition. The stock is currently selling for $15.44, well under his buy price of $20.16 and has a sell price $26 (a 66% profit). Noble Corp. (NYSE:NE) is a oil & natural gas explorer. Using Roy's price estimates this company could have gains of 36%.

Susquehanna Financial Group; Jason Kolbert

Jason is a senior Bio-tech analyst and seems to know what he is talking about (because I didn't really understand). He went into major detail about Hepatitis C treatments and some companies that will be releasing data soon. He spoke positively about Intermune (INTM) and Vertex (VRTX) regarding their DAV treatments for Hep-C. He basically assured me that Lev Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (LEVP) will gain approval on their current drug for Hereditary Angioedema. This would send the $1.65 stock soaring. He identified PDL BioPharma (PDLI) as a take out candidate.

Internet Wealth Builder; Gordon Pape

Gordon has some good news and some bad news about the falling US Dollar. The rapid appreciation of the Canadian dollar has been diminishing gains for Canadians, but acts as a nice double for US investors; a hedge against the US dollar and a solid investment in a growing economy. He advises that US investors seek companies that are listed both in Canada and the US. Rogers Communications (NYSE:RCI), Suncor Energy (NYSE:SU), and Manulife Financial (NYSE:MFC); just to name a few. He mentioned a few promising international stocks; Telefonica Sa (NYSE:TEF) up 14% and (NYSE:SBS) a Brazilian water company with a long, unpronounceable name.

Jack Adamo' Insider PLUS; Jack Adamo

It turns out that he just moved into a new office in my Hometown of Lincoln Park, NJ. What a small world! Sometimes insider buying can be a public relations event, according to Jack Adamo, but in his newsletter he seeks "genuine" insider transactions. He mentions American Eagle Outfitters (NYSE:AEO) has seen some strong insider buying along with Kinder Morgan Energy (NYSE:KMP), which yields a nice 6.8%.
His name is Jack and he works in Lincoln Park. Listen in!

Luther King Capital Management; Steven Purvis

Steven gives his top three industries and his favorite stock from each industry. For Aerospace and defense stock, he likes Ladish Corp. (Nasdaq:LDS), a parts supplier for the aerospace industry. Core Labs (NYSE:CLB) is his Energy play. This company helps get more oil out of known reserves and is aggressively buying back stock. Meridian Bioscience (Nasdaq:VIVO) has been a nice Health care stock for them, but at these levels they will not be adding to their position.

The Coolcat Reports; Kevin Kennedy

WOW! Kevin's picks are like printing money. All I'm going to do is tell you the companies that he recommended and how much they are up since Sept. 28th. China Shenghuo Pharma (KUN:AMEX) up 137%. New Oriental Energy & Chemical (NOEC:NASDAQ) up 25%. China Natural Resources (CHNR:NASDAQ) up 192%. This is what it's all about!

Aston/Veredus Aggressive Growth (VERDX); B. Anthony Weber

Tony, as he is known to his friends, uses an interesting investment style which has propelled his fund to some great success this year. This funds seeks out companies in which the Street has underestimated the earnings. We discuss three core holdings that are prime examples of this strategy; URS Corp. (URS:NYSE), Ansys (ANSS:NASDAQ), and Hittite Microwave (HITT:NASDAQ). Look for these stocks to beat the earnings and maybe get a nice pop because of it.
URS and ANSS are up almost 10% in less than a month. He Knows what he is talking about. Listen In!

Forecasts & Strategies; Dr. Mark Skousen

Dr. Skousen is a very straight forward guy with some skepticism about Dr. Bernake's 50 basis point double whammy. He says that Dr. Ben may have "thrown in the towel" trying to bail out some banks who got themselves into this mess. But he showed more concern about the falling dollar. If it is the Fed's job to control the dollar, then serious policy changes are needed to halt the US dollar's decline. He recommended Quest Capital (AMEX:QCC), a $2.85 Canadian financier (up a quick 15% since Sept. 20) and China Medical (NASDAQ:CMED) for its promising FISH technology.

Paradigm Opportunity Fund (PFOPX), Jason Ronovech

Jason is the portfolio manager of a quality mutual fund in the small cap value category, up 21% for the past twelve months. He has a sound investment strategy and had some good stock picks. Radiant Systems (RADS:NASDAQ) runs hospitality software for the retail space and has a nice short position against it; 13.5% of float (could see a nice pop if they beat on earnings). Trinity Bio (TRIB:NASDAQ) has a rapid HIV test kit and the CDC has determined that a kit of this nature should be used in urban markets. While this does not necessarily mean they will only use Trinity's test, it is a front-runner in the field. Finally, we discussed the generic drug maker KV Pharma (KV-A:NYSE). This company has firm hold on the OBGYN niche of drugs, and the potential for future drugs looks bright, according to Jason.
Good stocks for any portfolio, all up a respectable 5%. Listen IN!

Magent Investment Group; Jordan Kimmel

"Finding only Superlative companies" and "free cash flows leads to the Spiral of the Fortuitous". These are just two of the magnanimous one-liners from this interview, unfortunately for us the rest of the interview lacked the vigor and substance that I expected. Basically, it was a dud. Apparently, his company was recently acquired and his investing style is now a highly guarded secret. No stock picks, no investing ideas, and certainly nothing worth listening to. On the bright side, he sounded happy about not answering my questions.
You should listen to this one if you want to hear me struggle for answers. listen.

Transamerica Premier Funds; Michelle Stevens

In a business that is still dominated by men, it is refreshing to here a woman's voice, and her fund is on fire! When I performed this interview, TPSMX was up 39% for the past 12 months. Her fund is overweight in the shipping industry and she discussed two of her core holdings; Omega Navigation (ONAV:Nasdaq) and Aegean Marine Petroleum (ANW:NYSE). These two stocks are up 6% and 18% since her recommendation. Claymont Steel (PLTE:NASDAQ) is another company that she has identified as a turnaround play. Their main product is a specialized form of steel used in bridge construction and the backlog of orders is growing. Be aware that it may take a few quarters for their capital spending to pay off and the profits to start flowing.

North American Management; David Baker

David had spent most of the spring and summer on the sidelines, but now he is ready to deploy some capital. He is bullish on energy, materials, and water. I drink over a gallon of water a day, so I know the power of water, but he told me how profitable it can be (though I don't remember getting a penny for the water I drink). He believes that the sheer number of new consumers is the way to play the emerging market. He gave 3 European ETF's; FEU, PID and EZU to gain exposure to the expansion of Eastern Europe. As far as Asia is concerned, he thinks that Singapore will emerge as the financial capital. The Singapore index ETF, EWS, is up 9% in under a month after his recommendation.

The Stanford Group; Han Li, PhD.

Wow, this guy is smart. I guess they don't give out PhD's to just anyone. Fall is the season for Bio-tech. According to Han Li, there are 17 medical coferences between September and December and countless companies revealing results for their latest drugs. He gave me the real story behind Erbitux's affect on Imclone (IMCL:NASDAQ) and describes the promising partnerships of Aspreva Pharmaceuticals (ASPV:NASDAQ). As if that wasn't enough, he told about Arqule Inc. (ARQL:NASDAQ). This is a $7.50 Bio-tech company which he believes can double over the next year.

Heartland Value Plus Fund (HRVIX); Bradford Evans

This fund was up 23.8% over the past twelve months and Brad shed some light on how he achieved such success. He highlighted two industries that should be ready for a turnaround; Chemicals and Natural Gas. Olin Corp. (NYSE:OLN) is a chemicals company that has two other units that the street has not fairly valued and Brad gave a price target of $28. Cimarex (NYSE:XEC) is a natural gas company with a strong balance sheet. According to Brad, this company lists "known" reserves, not "probable" reserves like other companies. He throws a price target of $46 its way.

Next Generation Equity Research; R.J. Hottovy

R.J. is a Senior Retail Analyst. Being a US consumer myself, I was interested to know how I would be spending my money during the back-to-school season. Flexible inventories! That's the key to successful retailing. He really liked the discount shoe retailers DSW Inc. (NYSE:DSW) and Brown Shoe (NYSE:BWS). We also spoke about one of my personal favorite stores Urban Outfitters (Nasdaq:URBN). I feel that the Urban has lost a bit of its appeal, but R.J. says that the key to the company's success are the Anthropology, Free People, and the new Train/Greenhouse brands.

Smart Growth Mutual Funds; Kevin Mahn

This guy was a little TOO prepared for this interview. The first 10 minutes sounded like he was reading from a script, and the second ten minutes didn't get much better. On the bight side he did mention a few ETF's that are worthy of consideration; ILF:AMEX, which follows the S&P Latin America 40 and DBV:AMEX, which is a unique G10 currency "carry-trade". ILF is up 20% since the recommendation, and DBV is up an inflation-quenching 6%.

A. Gary Shilling's Insight; Gary Shilling

There needs to be a new word invented for how bearish Gary Shilling is on the economy. I'll call it "Grizzly". You may have seen him on "Kudlow & Co." speaking about the "Sub-prime Slime", well he is just as bleak and "Grizzly" in person. His 12 themes for 2007 all lead to a world wide recession. His recommendation is to buy the 30 year treasury bond for reasons of capital appreciation.

Professional Timing Service; Curtis Hesler

Curtis is from Montana, and he informed me that forest fires are a big problem for them. I had no idea, but not to worry, he should be out of harm's way. He is a commodity bull and has a price target of $1000 for gold by 2010. That does not seem so far fetched now that gold has had a 7 handle on it for months now. His favorite gold plays are Yamana (AUY:NYSE) and US Gold Corp. (UXG:AMEX). He loves refiners, especially these two,Valero (NYSE:VLO) and Frontier Oil (NYSE:FTO), which have the capability of refining lower quality crude oil. Watch out for Altius (ALS.TO), a Canadian mining company that is seeking approval to build a refinery in the next 5 years.

The Complete Investor, Dr. Stephen Leeb

Oil at $100 a barrel! Not that far away if you ask Dr. Stephen Leeb. He thinks that there is a probability that we will see $200 oil in our lifetime. He highlighted several alternative energy stocks that could profit from high oil prices; (FSLR:NASDAQ), (GE:NYSE), and (ENER:NASDAQ). He really likes the Florida Utility, FPL Group (FPL:NYSE), for its expansion into wind power. But don't think that he has given up on the oil service companies, some of his highest recommendations were Schlumberger (SLB:NYSE) and PetroChina (PTR:NYSE).

Boenning & Scattergood, Inc., Bradley Mook

I have a secret, On-demand software is where it's at. Shhh... Brad gave me the skinny on this software trend and he describes 3 small-cap companies that are pure plays. Everything that we do is being linked to the Internet right now, why not have all your software applications on someone else's server too? This is the idea behind on-demand software, and LivePerson (Nasdaq:LPSN), ART Tech (Nasdaq:ARTG), and UCN Inc. (UCNN.OB) are the companies that have a chance to profit from this trend. All of these stocks are up since his recommendations, including and 10% gain for UCNN.OB and 16% for LPSN.

The China Stock Digest, Jim Trippon

While based in Texas, Jim spends much of his time in China getting a closer look at the country on the forefront of every one's mind. He told me that if I were to visit one city in China it should be Bejing, because it offers the best blend of old and new world China. Back to the stock picks. Jim was adamant about Petro China (NYSE:PTR), China Mobil (NYSE:CHL), and Aluminum Co. of China (NYSE:ACH). These stocks are up big since his recommendations; 29%, 34%, and 17% respectively. To say that Jim Trippon is bullish on China would be an understatement. He believes that China is in year 20 of a 70 year bull run, and the growing middle-class will lead the way.

Adrian Day, The Global Analyst

This was one of the greatest interviews I have ever done. First of all, he has a British accent. That makes anything more enjoyable to listen to. Honestly though, the man knows his stuff. He took me through all of the emerging markets around the world and gave me his favorite stocks from those countries and told me which countries he was not interested in. Some of the best stock picks came from this interview. If you invested in Goldcorp. (NYSE:GG) when he said to, you would be up over 32%. He recommended Gol Airlines (NYSE:GOL) and Gafisa(NYSE:GFA) because he loves the Brazilian Economy right now. By the way, those stocks are up 8.5% and 25.5% respectively. He is skeptical about Russia, sold his positions in India, thinks Mexico may be overvalued, and his favorite market right now is Thailand!

Talking options with Larry McMillan was a real honor. The guy is a legend! He clued me in to the 4 technical signs that he uses to judge the health of the markets: VIX, put-to-call ratio, breadth, and finally the $SPX (some times the Russell 2000). The markets were extremely volatile when this interview took place, but I did not get the feeling that worried him in the least. Perhaps this was even an ideal trading situation for him.

Pennystocks.com Founder; Peter Leeds

I had the pleasure of speaking with Peter Leeds, The "Penny Stock Pro". He has developed a great way to sift through the thousands of penny stocks out there, and he has aptly named this process "Leed's Analysis". One of his favorite stocks at the time was Move, Inc. (Nasdaq:MOVE) a leader in online real estate services. This gem is up 13% since he recommended it on my show. This next stock is a really penny stock, WWA Group Inc. (WWAG.OB), which auctions industrial equipment in places such as Dubai. At $0.75, this stock could be a real winner.

Listen to our interview. He is great guy with a great reputation.
